Macy’s will open its new stores in the Manitoba airport, a move that will bring more than 100 stores to Winnipeg, as well as more than 300 more in the city’s surrounding suburbs.
The company will be opening stores in two new stores, a small store on the north end of the airport and an upscale store in the northwest corner of the property.
A spokesperson told The Verge the stores will be open on Tuesday, March 5, 2019, and will be accessible to the public for “first-time visitors.”
The stores will also have a limited number of reserved seating spaces, and the spokesperson did not offer details about how many people may be in the store.
The spokesperson said the two stores are the first in Manitoba to be open in the years following the mall’s closure in 2017.
In 2017, Macy’s announced it was closing its Winnipeg stores and had to sell the rest of its stores in Canada to save money, as it didn’t have the cash to do the same.
“We’re not closing these stores, we’re just moving them,” Macy’s spokesperson Amanda Joly told CBC News in 2018.
“We are opening two new Macy’s in Winnipeg, so we’re looking to expand.”
