NEW ZEALAND, Australia — New stores opened in Melbourne on Monday as part of the city’s plan to boost its retail scene and boost its tourist trade.

About 10 stores were opened at the same time as new shopping malls, such as the Victoria and Westfield shopping centers in the CBD, and new restaurants.

New Zealand’s prime minister, Jacinda Ardern, visited the city on Monday, and also visited a Melbourne park.

Australia’s second-biggest economy has already been hit hard by the global recession, but is still expecting strong economic growth in the second half of the year.
